Korundi, home to the Lapland Chamber Orchestra and the Rovaniemi Art Museum, and the stage for numerous cultural events, has renewed its website. The collaborative project brought together communications decision-makers from the City of Rovaniemi, Korundi, Tietotalo, and Korundi's own advertising agency.

The new website had to serve all the building's services – the Rovaniemi Art Museum, the Lapland Chamber Orchestra, the concert hall hosting various visits, Korundi Kitchen & Café and Korundi Shop. And when it came to the event building, the heart of the website was built around a modern events calendar.

User-friendly event calendar at the heart of the project

Korundi's new event calendar searches and filters information from the interface of the Eventz platform used by the city of Rovaniemi. The system, which is widely used by municipalities and cities, is integrated into the site comprehensively: the company's own events and those taking place in the company's surroundings are filtered from the platform to Korundi's page - with a brand look and a smooth customer experience without surfing elsewhere. When you don't leave your own page, the user experience is not interrupted.

The City of Rovaniemi adopted the Eventz solution in 2020 at the same time as the Rovaniemi.fi website was launched – also implemented by Tietotalo. Events entered centrally into Eventz are seamlessly made available to different pages: from there, a dozen different sites draw their event information, from rovaniemi.fi to Arctic Design Week and on to the Rovaniemi villages' website roikylät.fi.

The solution improves the user experience and reduces manual work and the possibility of errors:

– From the point of view of information management, it is vital that information is filtered for use by different services from a single platform. We will further strengthen this development trend. At the same time, the solution supports diversity, as the implementation of the solution is almost free of charge even for smaller events, says Antti Itkonen, digital communications expert responsible for Rovaniemi's digital development.

Korundi is a diverse cultural center for people and the arts in Rovaniemi. It is home to the Rovaniemi Art Museum and the Lapland Chamber Orchestra, where the world opens up from a northern perspective. The international house hosts changing exhibitions and guest concerts, bringing cultural experiences to both locals and tourists.

Diverse services and desires smoothly together

The project was implemented in collaboration between Korundi, Korundi's advertising agency, Rovaniemi Communications and Tietotalo. When many stakeholders gather around the same table, it is a challenge to ensure that everyone's wishes and needs are taken into account.

– The operating environment was complex, but everyone knew their own field and the cooperation went well. The dialogue was open, and the project achieved smooth co-development from the beginning, Itkonen says.

– Development work must take into account human behavior and how different functionalities fit into the whole. This guided the work of all parties involved in the project to a commendable extent.

Efficiency and data security from integrations and the open source Infoweb platform

Tietotalo's own InfoWeb Core was selected as the platform for Korundi's new website, combining Tietotalo's experience, customer understanding and the latest technology. The latest version of the platform offers efficiency and smooth content production for building the website.

The renewing aimed above all for modernity, ease of use and strong information security. The website maintenance also had to be extremely efficient and functional – after all, it also shows in the customer interface as better service.

– Integrations and automation allow us to focus our work where it is most useful. When time is not spent, for example, on moving information from one place to another, we can serve the public better by reporting on current affairs, for example, Itkonen says.

Tietotalo is also pleased with the project:

– InfoWeb Core is a logical, smooth-to-use and modern platform. The user experience is also improved by the extreme loading speed of the pages, says project manager Aleksi Brunni from Tietotalo.

– Accessibility is also something we are born with in our minds. All solutions are built with accessibility in mind, which is reflected on the Korundi website, for example, as the option to change the view to a dark-themed, high-contrast layout.
